La Mercè is Barcelona’s largest annual festival, held in September to honor the city’s patron saint, the Virgin of Mercy. The event showcases a variety of traditional Catalan culture, including human towers (castellers), parades of giant figures (gegants), and the spectacular fire run (correfoc), where participants dressed as devils dance through fireworks. Music performances and street art fill the city, making it a vibrant and inclusive celebration that reflects Barcelona’s rich cultural heritage and dynamic spirit.
