Every January, the small town of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands ignites with fiery festivities during Up Helly Aa, Europes largest fire festival. This celebration commemorates the Viking heritage of the islands with a dramatic torch-lit procession culminating in the burning of a Viking longship. Thousands of participants, known as guizers, don elaborate costumes to march through the streets. Its a spectacle of flames, historical pageantry, and community spirit, attracting visitors to experience Scotlands rich Norse history firsthand.
