It's the most-ordered item in our store, and this is the full journey from camera roll to wall.

Stage 1 — Choose the photo like it's the artwork (it is)

The photo you pick determines everything, so choose deliberately:

• Emotional pull first. The photo that makes you pause mid-scroll is the one worth forty hours of brushwork — a pet, a person, a place with a story.
• Then technical quality. Sharp focus and good light convert into clean, paintable sections. Blur becomes mud.
• Composition: one clear subject, close up, calm background. The more of the frame your subject fills, the more satisfying detail your painting will carry.

Stage 2 — Order and upload

Upload the image when you place your order ($19.95). We convert it into a pre-printed canvas of outlined, numbered sections, and build a numbered acrylic paint set matched to your photo's actual colors. The kit arrives with three brushes (small, medium, large) and instructions — everything you need except a stand, so plan on a table or lean it against a stack of books.

Stage 3 — Paint with a portrait-painter's game plan

Custom canvases have their own rhythm because the subject matters more than in a standard design:

1. Background first. Fill the large background sections with the big brush — quick wins, and it frames the subject before the delicate work begins.
2. One color at a time. Open a pot, paint all its numbers, close it. Faster, cleaner, and oddly meditative.
3. Faces and fur last, small brush, fresh eyes. The sections that carry a likeness — eyes, muzzle, smile lines — deserve the start of a session, not the tired end of one. Brace your painting hand and take it slow; this is where the photo becomes a portrait.
4. Two thin coats where numbers ghost through. Let it dry a few minutes between coats; acrylic is forgiving.
5. Dry corrections. If a line goes wrong, wait for it to dry and paint over it. Invisible.

Stage 4 — The finish

Let the completed canvas dry thoroughly. It's printed with an extra 4cm border precisely for framing: the solid wooden picture frame in 16x20 (four finishes) fits the standard canvas and turns your project into a finished piece of wall art. Sign the corner — you painted it.
